When I look at those around us and the hustle and bustle that is constantly going on around us, it seems like everyone is in the pursuit of true happiness.
Some think their pursuit of money will bring them their desired happiness. Yet, at the end of the day, it never brings anyone happiness. In fact, it only seems to make people more miserable and unhappy as the inanimate object of money can do nothing for them.
Some think their pursuit of making and finding new friends will bring them their desired happiness. Yet, most seem to disappoint them as they never live up to their expectations.
Some think their pursuit of things like the biggest TV or house or car will bring them their desired happiness. Yet these do no such thing as most people do it on credit as they can’t afford to buy any of them out right. Many people become stressed over their monthly bills as their inner desires are truly never filled through these things.
Some think their pursuit of ‘religion’ will bring them their desired happiness as they bow to Buda or some other ‘religious’ figure. Yet, this gives them a false sense of happiness as they either are bowing to a man-made object of some kind that has absolutely no power at all or they pray to some false deity that actually doesn’t exist.
In the end, the pursuit of everything but one will never bring anyone true happiness. Personally, I don’t even think of it as happiness as much as I think of it as joy.
My joy can only come from one place. I will never see Him while still alive on this Earth. I will never hear Him actually speak in the way I speak to my husband. However, the one Deity I believe in is how I know I will have pure joy for the rest of my life while still here on this Earth and then one day when my spirit meets Him in Heaven. If you haven’t guessed, I am talking about God. He is our Heavenly Father who is always there for us no matter what happens in our life.
The one solace I had when my daughter died is that one day I would get to see her again in Heaven because our Lord and Savior allowed her to come there. I could not imagine not having this belief as I might have driven myself crazy over the grief alone with how much I missed and still miss my beloved little girl.
So, the true pursuit to happiness, or I should say joy, is finding a relationship with our Lord and living for Him on a daily basis. No matter how hard life gets, He continues to lift me up and take care of me through it all.
E G Lewis says
In the final analysis, it all depends upon what we choose to treasure in life…”For where your treasurte is, there your heart will be also.”
Good Thoughts.
Peace and Blessings

EG Lewis, you are so right. When we put our faith into anything other than God for our Happiness, or joy, we only ended up becoming disappointed in the end.
Terrie says
Kristena, Spot on! Things of this earth pale in comparison of what awaits us with the Lord. I lived the earthly pursuit, but what I thought was joy never lasted long. When Jesus found me, brought me to himself and showed me the true joy and happiness in life, you just can’t wipe the smile from my face. Even in difficult circumstances – His peace, joy and happiness is always there. Peace and Blessings!
Mommy's Angel In Heaven says
Terrie, isn’t it amazing how everything pales in comparison to our Heavenly Father and what awaits us in Heaven. I feel blessed that God chose His only son to die on the cross so that I could have everlasting life. That, to me, is so much more precious than any “item” on this earth. Sometimes we still let our human side take over and we forget this for a moment but at the end of the day it is what still guides us and directs our life in that God is always there for us and taking care of us.

The second half of Psalm 30:5 “…weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” I was reminded of this verse by your post. Thank you so much for sharing!
Mommy's Angel In Heaven says
Suzette, I think that is really kewl that something I have written can remind you of a verse in the Bible. That is beautiful compliment. Thank you.

You said, “In the end, the pursuit of everything but one will never bring anyone true happiness.” Very true. This reminds me of the words to the song, “Only Jesus can satisfy your soul. Yes, only He can change your heart and make you whole.” This is exactly what I have experienced, and I attest that it is true. Everything else in life has failed me. Jesus has never failed me. In fact, Jesus has done all things well for me. He is Faithful and True!
Mommy's Angel In Heaven says
SandiGrace, I know exactly what you mean. I know I would not be in the place I am today with having Jesus apart of my life and in me. I am ever grateful to this.

Well said, Kristena. That’s one of the blessings that comes from trials. It shifts our focus to what’s really important.

Deborah, thank you so much. In all things we can find the many blessings God has bestowed upon us if we just take the time to look.

The truest pursuit of all, Kristena! Wonderful post! I’m sorry I’m so late in commenting. Life has been a bit overwhelming lately.

Very good points in your post, Kristena. I look at it this way: Happiness is based on happenings (circumstances), while joy is based on Jesus, and He never changes. 🙂
Mommy's Angel In Heaven says
Traci, that is a great way to put it. Happiness is short lived while we all can have joy in Jesus for eternity.
