As I sat here thinking toward the end of March what I’d do for each letter of the alphabet over the month of April, one of those letters that’s hard to find a word for is the letter ‘I’. I wanted to keep my theme going with either literary terms or something writing related and the only thing I could come up with was ISBN.
When you’re a writer and one day your book gets published, that little number is huge. It’s almost like a fingerprint in that an ISBN is unique to each book published. It might even be the same book but you will have a different number if it’s hardback and if it’s paperback as well as if it’s an ebook. There can be many different reason why you’d have a different ISBN for the same book. I’ve even seen a different one for reprints of the same books because the cover is different or maybe it’s been an updated version or whatever it is. On Google you can search by the ISBN if you have the number.
I think the day my book finally gets an ISBN I’ll do my own sort of happy dance as that means my dream is becoming a reality.

I worked at a college library as a work study and learned to appreciate the isbn as well as all the other ‘parts’ that give a book its identity. Let’s hope your isbn becomes a reality soon!

I will tell you that’s be truly awesome. It’s amazing how a little number like the ISBN can mean so much to so many.

No idea what an ISBN is. Haha. I’ll Google it now.

Suzanne, and ISBN is on the back of every book you’ve ever read. Go look at the barcode on the back of the book and in the smaller print you will see the ISBN. I honestly didn’t know much about them until I became a writer and found out the significance they really have for a book.

Until I was published, I didn’t realize they’d assign multiple ISBN’s to a single title. Weird. I don’t mind though.

I bet that was interesting finding that out after the fact, and I wouldn’t have minded either. To me, it means your book is in print which is pretty kewl.
