You shake your head at all the energy one little girl exuded.
Mari’s infallible energy never ceased to amaze any of us. She could run through the house dancing, singing, both at the same time. She wasn’t picky.
Mari truly didn’t care what other people thought of her. She’d run around at school, church, the store or any place that had a floor. So basically everywhere. I remember one day after the church service watching Mari in her normal exuberant self run all around making her Mari noises. She could entertain herself for hours.
Then these 3 girls around the same age as Mari were standing behind her and making fun of her. The sad part about this is Mari had no clue.
As her mom I was hurt for the both of us. I went up to these girls and told them that what they were doing was wrong. I explained that Mari had autism and she was different from other children. That teasing someone who doesn’t even understand what was happening to them was so wrong. They never teased my daughter again.
Mari’s energy we used to say how if we could bottle up all her energy we’d be some rich people. It’s kind of like Mari never had a stop button. But all her energy could put a smile on anyone’s face.

Courage, grace and patience – Mari was so lucky to have a mom like you, who embodies those characteristics. I don’t know if I could have kept my cool and explained to those girls as you did.
Her energy sounded amazing!

Thank you for that. I feel blessed to have been her mom. Even the noise toys most parents cringe about their kids getting, I never did because it made her happy.

Thank you so much for your kind, sweet comments. I feel blessed that I’m able to write and show what a beautiful person my little girl was on this earth.

Kristena, children can be so cruel…familiar words, huh? But I firmly believe the children who exhibit these types of traits are lacking in fundamental upbringing – basic education provided at home by parents about such things. It’s sad that people who are “different” in any way must deal with the unthoughtful, cruel jibes of other human beings.

I agree with you. It was and still is uncalled for. In a way, since it had to happen, I was glad Mari didn’t have the ability to understand that way she was emotionally hurt. As a mom, all you want to do is protect your little ones.
