Can you believe that the year 2013 is over two-thirds of the way done and we are almost to 2014 already.
I can remember as a kid thinking how s l o w each and every year went as a kid. My birthday could never come quick enough. Christmas could never come quick enough. The school year certainly couldn’t get over quick enough.
And then right around the time I turned 21 I began to notice that the year seemed to get a little quicker than before. And ever since, each year seems to go by quicker and quicker. It feels like we just had Christmas last month and yet it’s less than four months away. We’re already starting to see Christmas stuff in the stores (which by the way is way to early).
Our years just go by quicker and quicker. Before we know it we are in our 30s, then 40s, and 50s, and so on. Our decades have seemed to magically gotten quicker as well.
So the bottom-line, are we happy with the lives that we’ve led all these years? Personally, I’ve had my ups and downs. However, everything has led me to where I am today: a writer. This is something that truly makes me happy. I never thought I’d get to this point but it really does. It’s something, if I really think about it, that’s made me happy ever since I got my first diary. For years, I have kept some kind of diary, or as many say today a journal. It’s where I don’t worry about what is written down or the grammar. I write whatever feelings comes to my head at the time.
After my daughter died, I went out to Target, bought a brand new pink one and wrote in it all the time. If I was feeling down it was my go to place. I was able to open up about everything in there without any fear for anyone reading it.
As the year 2008 was ending and 2009 was beginning I dreaded it. It’s hard to explain but knowing that my daughter had been alive and a part of 2008 made me not want to leave it. 2009 would be the first year I’d be without her. And yet 2009 came anyway.
As 2013 begins to wind down for me, A lot has happened this past year. We had a major move that took us clear across the country from Kentucky to now living in Alaska. We knew Alaska would be beautiful but we had no idea what to expect other than having daylight almost the entire day in Summer and all nightlight almost the entire Winter.
We’re here now and so far we are loving it. It has breath-taking views. We are right next to the ocean and mountains surround us everywhere. If ever you have a chance to visit Alaska, take it. You will never regret it.
