Please welcome this week's guest Julie Lessman for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? He must increase, but I must decrease." --John 3:30 How have I seen God work in my writing journey? Well, let me put it this way—despite the fact that I’ve put on five extra pounds over the summer, the Scripture above is not talking about shedding body weight, although heaven knows I need to. Nope, today I'm talking about the latest lesson God has … [Read more...]
Sorry it took so long… #acfw
I sit here this morning thinking back on the last couple of months, and the time seems to have flown by. Only eight months ago I sat up in my room with my husband discussing with him why I felt I needed to go to the ACFW writers conference in September. Besides that awesome friends I'll finally get to meet in person (Joy Avery Melville, Julie Lessman, Dineen Miller, just to name a few :) ) and the fantastic workshops I'll get to go to, I'll have that rare opportunity to pitch both my fiction … [Read more...]
Day 114: The idea That Won’t Go Away #acfw
Have you ever had one of those moment when you're writing where your characters just won’t shut up. They continue to talk and talk and talk. They won’t quit until you write what they're telling you to write down. This has happened to me a few times with the fiction novel I’ve been writing to the point I have a major rewrite in the works that'll need to be completed by the time I go to my first writer's conference in September. If you aren’t a writer you may think that we have something … [Read more...]
Reflecting back over the A to Z Challenge #AtoZchallenge #acfw
This year is the first time I did the A to Z Challenge on this site. However, I did do it last year on my daughter's dedication site (mommysangelinheaven.com) and fell in love with doing it. So this year I decided to really up the ante, so to speak, and do the challenge on both this site as well as my daughter's site. It wasn't easy and I even was late a couple of times with posting, but I was able to write on every letter and get them posted on both sites. Yea!!!! The topic I chose to write … [Read more...]
M is for Mentor
In life we can find a mentor for so many things. Athletics. Business. Politics. Our Faith. In writing, finding a mentor to help you be the best writer you can be I feel is one of the most important things we can do. Sometimes you only have one, and if you are fortunate enough you may have more than one. These people take time out of their busy lives to help you as you grow. And they don't just help you in your writing but help you in your life when the time is needed. I feel like I have been … [Read more...]
J is for Julie Lessman
As I sat down at the end of last month going through the alphabet looking for words for each letter, finding a 'J' literary term seemed hard to find. So I started thinking about other avenues I could still write about, but also at the same time somehow be writing related. And then I thought of my friend Julie Lessman. While we've never met in person, we have talked several time either through email or on Facebook. I first heard about Julie from a good friend, Joy Melville (who also happens to … [Read more...]
To Change Something About Yourself
If I were given the opportunity to change one thing about myself it would be to have much better patience. I didn't want to just say patience, because no matter who you are you have some. It might seem microscopic, but it's still there. God may have bestowed many gifts upon me, some still unknown, but the one He didn't give was the gift of patience. This is a weak area for me. I can easily get frustrated and don't dare try to talk to me in those moments of deep frustration because I have a … [Read more...]
The Journey with Allyson Carter
Please welcome this weeks guest Allyson Carter for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Kristena asked me to write about my writing journal and what God has done for me with it. I panicked, and had no clue what to write about, because, well let me explain, what I mean by what I just said. I’m a Christian, who writes, but until recently I wrote in a very hot genre. So, as you can see I had no clue how or what to say. Well, then, my … [Read more...]
