How can anyone say they are doing a good deed if their heart isn't fully into it? I don't get that personally. If I'm going to do a good deed for someone or something then I need to have my heart fully into it. The fact is others will be able to tell that I'm not into it otherwise. Unless, of course, you're a fantastic actor/actress who can get away with faking it, but if that's the case maybe that person should be paid millions to do movies and what not then too. When Mari died, I could have … [Read more...]
Easing the Pain of Someone Else
Have you ever thought about what your actions or words might do for someone, especially if they are going through something? For me, I've always tried to do what I can to help someone else if possible. We all have our hard times we go through and it's nice to know someone else cares. When Mari was in the hospital, as you can probably imagine, there were lots of tears and heavy hearts with each passing day as we watch our beloved, beautiful daughter slipping before our very eyes. It happened so … [Read more...]
Day 137: Mileage from Childhood Fears
Many things happen to us throughout our childhood. Some good things while other not so good and for some they hope they never remember the really bad things. No matter who we are. No matter how we were raised. We are who we are today because of how we grew up. Our childhood shaped and molded us into the person we are now. I think back to when I was growing up. Was there a lot of bad stuff, like abuse? Unfortunately, the answer to that is yes. If I could take away all the abuses, neglect and … [Read more...]
Running for office…
No, I'm not running for office but wouldn't it be interesting if I did. It's never been an ambition of mine. First of all, I'd have to get up in front of hundreds of people all the time. No Thank You. Public Speaking has never been my thing. I literally start to shake and my stomachs starts flipping wheelies because I get so nervous. I honestly don't know how the people who do it do do it. Even with my fear of public speaking, I've had something leaning on my heart in the last year or so that, … [Read more...]
Day 131: Do Not Try This at Home
Well, this is a little different. There are so many things where there is a warning, especially on TV, where it says, “Do Not Try This At Home.” I think of that movie “Jack (you know the word)” where there is a guy who I guess does a bunch of really stupid things. Personally, I’ve never seen this movie and really never want to either. Dare devils who do their death-defying stunts. And you’re like, “Yeah right would I try that at home. I’m sane.” LOL Or how about those who go after things like … [Read more...]
I Can Only Imagine…
I can only imagine. Those words can mean so much to so many different people. For me they have a place imbedded in my heart as we had the song "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe put on the Video montage of a photo slideshow that played in the background as each picture popped up on the screen. Before Mari died, the song had always held a special place for me as the lyrics really touch home for what we all try to imagine heaven to be when we get there, when we finally get to see Jesus. I chose this … [Read more...]
Day 112: Getting to Denver by 4:00
The basic gist is this: Procrastination. How often do we say or think, “Oh, I can wait to do ________ until tomorrow (or whatever time you put). Fill in the blank with whatever it is you are putting off. For me, it has been so many different things. I think we can all say that about something that we needed to do but didn’t feel like it so we pushed it off until the last possible minute and then it’s crunch time. I admit that I have procrastinated a few times with my writing. I know it will … [Read more...]
Day 107: A Love Story
Great loves of our life. Depending on the person, there can be many great loves or only a few to maybe only just one. For me, my first great love is for my Heavenly Father in heaven. It is through Him all things are possible. My next great love is for my husband Keith. In my childhood there were many kinds of abuse that happened to me and as a result shaped who I am today, or at least partly shaped. I don't have the greatest self-esteem. I have issues with letting go of control. I don't … [Read more...]
Reflecting Back on the A to Z Challenge in April
It’s hard to believe that the month of April is already over as well as the A to Z Challenge for 2013. I remember finding out about the challenge toward the end of March and thought it was a pretty kewl idea to take a letter from the alphabet for each day of the month. I knew right from the get go that I’d be doing it about my daughter. However, I had to come up with what each letter for would signify. Here were all the words I used this month: Amazing beautiful caring dare-devil energy … [Read more...]
Day 84: How to Be a Writer
There's an age-old saying that says "patience is a virtue." However, God skipped the boat with me on that front. Sometimes I can feel the frustration boiling up to where my lid could blow a hole through the roof. I know my voice can suddenly shoot up to screaming in a second. This has been a flaw of mine since I can remember. Through all of this, God decided in His infinite wisdom that I could handle a blond hair, Caribbean blue-eyed beautiful little girl who happened to have severe classic … [Read more...]
