Catastrophe. That’s quite a word. It’s the epitomy of a word trying to describe the worst of a circumstance and even with this word it’s still not enough to truly explain the loss. Flood, almost 4 feet deep = Catastrophe. The catastrophic nature of what happened back on May 19 doesn’t begin to describe enough the significant loss Keith, Athena, me, and my mom went through. Athena literally no longer has a bedroom. Our house only has 3 bedrooms in it. Two on the main floor - Keith & I … [Read more...]
Out of Control
Have you ever felt like your life is out of control? You have a direction you'd like to go, but your path is anything but straight. If you'd look back, it's as if you're drunk with the way it looks like you've weaved back and forth along the way. For the last few years, that's how my life has been. There are things happening in our home that began in the summer of 2015. While I can't go into details, the seriousness that's evolved as a result has added an enormous strain on our … [Read more...]
Is There Such a Thing as a Perfect Job?
I can remember from the time I was little dreaming of the job I’d want to do when I grew up. My dream to be a nurse started before I was 5 years old. I can remember sitting for an artist who drew one of those silly characters to where you have a little itty bitty body and your head is HUGE. He drew me like this as a nurse. I just knew this is what I wanted to be all through elementary school, junior high, and high school. I applied to colleges based on whether they had a nursing program or … [Read more...]
Are You A History Buff?
I was debating on whether to share the Week 4 Day 2 entry I'd written back on November 7, 2015. It's the first day Jen Hatmaker has us research the background of a book in the Bible before actually getting into the book itself. When I looked at day 2 I figured I was going to be expanding upon this specific day so I better include it so it makes better sense in the end. My hope is that maybe you might learn something like I did the day I did it. Thanks. Today is November 7, 2015 and I am in … [Read more...]
How to Find God’s Provision and Protection
For week 3 day 4, Jen had us read Psalm 68:5-10 and establish the main idea, turning it into a title. Title: God’s Provision & Protection “Today let’s see what alternate versions can do for your time in the Word. Allow the Spirit to fill your mind with truth as you read the following translations of verse 6: “God makes a home for the lonely; He leads out the prisoners into prosperity, Only the rebellious dwell in a parched land. (NASB) “God set the lonely in families, He leads … [Read more...]
Are You a Good Host?
Wow, I had decided I would continue to post some of what I wrote when I first did Jen Hatmaker's study guide in the back of her book A Modern Girl's Guide to Bible Study. I was trying to find the post I'd started but the draft has disappeared for some reason. As I was scrolling through all my posts, I saw a bunch of drafts. So I decided to open them all up and saw that I'd already typed up about 5 days worth of quiet times from when I did it over a year and a half ago. I figured I might as well … [Read more...]
5 Things to Find Happiness In
You might be thinking that the five things are going to be your stereotypical answers. Yet, the five things might shock you as the word "happy" rarely, if ever, is correlated to these five things: Our Weaknesses Insults Hard Times Suffering Calamities Who in their right might would think these five things can bring any sort of happiness? Certainly not me, at least in the world's view of happiness. However, as a believer, aren't we told to do just this? It says in 2 … [Read more...]
What Does True Love Look Like?
Today is Week 2 Day 3 of the study, and before we get further into studying the Bible, she first has us pray so that our heart will be able to hear what the Holy Spirit has to tell us and to have us slow down so we can hear Him speak. In doing this He will be able to stretch us as we do our study today. I truly feel every time I take the time to pray before I dig deeper into God's Word, I'm able to understand it so much better than when I don't. Page 167 1. For question one, she has us … [Read more...]
The Journey with Elise Stone
Please welcome this week's guest Elise Stone for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? I was raised a Christian. I went to Sunday School and church every Sunday, sang in the choir, attended the youth group. I wrote my first story in kindergarten. I suppose “wrote” is exaggerating a bit. I drew a series of pictures, cartoon panels, and my mother wrote the words underneath. Both God and writing were very important, albeit separate, … [Read more...]
The Journey with Michelle Ule #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Michelle Ule for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? A Dream, a Sunbeam, a Little Girl and a Surprising Best Seller By Michelle Ule Like many people, I’ve dreamed of writing a book my entire life. I scribbled my first attempt at the age of seven but when I managed to get all the action in on the first three pages, I knew writing was harder work than I imagined! I majored in English Literature at UCLA … [Read more...]
