Please welcome this week's guest Jo Huddleston for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? My Writing Journey When I decided I wanted to write for publication, all I had was aspiration and hope. I hadn't studied the craft of writing, but I loved books and reading all my life. So when I submitted my first short stories, form letter rejections sped to my mailbox. It didn’t take long to learn that I needed help. I scoured the magazine … [Read more...]
The Journey with Kimberly Rose Johnson #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Kimberly Rose Johnson for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? I started my writing journey in 2006. I can’t believe it’s been nine years! The time has gone by so fast. In that time I’ve grown as a writer, a person, and in my walk with the Lord. I attended my first writer’s conference in the summer of 2006. It was at the Oregon Christian Writer’s conference where I probably learned more at that one … [Read more...]
The Journey with Stephanie Prichard #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Stephanie Prichard for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Riding the Emotional Roller Coaster When my love of writing became an earnest intent to publish, I had no idea I was mounting a twisting, looping roller coaster. Please note that from my perspective a roller coaster is NOT an instrument of fun and delight. Chugging to a peak is no problem, but the other side of that peak? Uh-uhhhh. Not a matter of … [Read more...]
The Journey with Holly Michael #acfw
Please welcome back this week's guest Holly Michael for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? God has worked in a mighty way in my writing journey, beginning from the day that I quit writing. Yes, that’s right. About fifteen years ago, a stay-at-home mom with three small children, I grew frustrated upon receiving yet another rejection letter. I was so done writing query letters. With the two oldest in school, I put the baby in a stroller … [Read more...]
The Journey with Katheryn Haddad #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Kateryn Haddad for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? I began to write when I was ten years old when my mother picked up a little book of poems at the grocery store (or was it the 5c and 10c store?) and gave it to me. I still have some of the poems I wrote back in 1950. When I was 12, I wrote a poem about Abraham Lincoln and it made our local newspaper. Shortly thereafter, my teacher said there was … [Read more...]
The Journey with Angela Strong #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Angela Strong for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Becoming a Strong Writer I’ve always been a writer. Whether it started when my mom sold a story about me as a five-year-old to Women’s World or in my 4th grade creative writing class or during my position with the high school newspaper or after I sold my first story to a national magazine for $100 at the age of 16, it doesn’t matter. That was the fun … [Read more...]
2014 ACFW Pre-Conference Mix and Mingle #acfw
My plan this morning had been to get back to writing my 365 day journey. However, I came across something in my email this morning that I'm quite excited about. All you have to do is answer a few questions, which I've put below. If you'd like to join in the fun and add yourself to the list, please click this link: laurietomlinson.com and if you don't have a … [Read more...]
Sorry it took so long… #acfw
I sit here this morning thinking back on the last couple of months, and the time seems to have flown by. Only eight months ago I sat up in my room with my husband discussing with him why I felt I needed to go to the ACFW writers conference in September. Besides that awesome friends I'll finally get to meet in person (Joy Avery Melville, Julie Lessman, Dineen Miller, just to name a few :) ) and the fantastic workshops I'll get to go to, I'll have that rare opportunity to pitch both my fiction … [Read more...]
The Journey with Janet Sketchley #acfw
Please welcome this week's guest Janet Sketchley for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? God dragged me into writing kicking and grumbling. I was a sleep-deprived at-home mom. My husband knew I needed to get out of the house, so he encouraged me to join a friend's new writing group. She needed bodies to fill the chairs, so what was I to do? Then God nudged me to pray for someone in jail. Again I struggled, but He didn't let up until I … [Read more...]
Day 114: The idea That Won’t Go Away #acfw
Have you ever had one of those moment when you're writing where your characters just won’t shut up. They continue to talk and talk and talk. They won’t quit until you write what they're telling you to write down. This has happened to me a few times with the fiction novel I’ve been writing to the point I have a major rewrite in the works that'll need to be completed by the time I go to my first writer's conference in September. If you aren’t a writer you may think that we have something … [Read more...]
