Have you ever fallen hard when walking, especially on ice. The year my husband turned 30 I decided to throw him a surprise big 30th birthday party. We invited around 40 people to our friend Missy’s house. She had a nice big house at the time that fit everyone comfortably. I purchased a sheet cake from Sam’s Club. I got him a special t-shirt that actually said something nice, and not snarky, for his birthday.
The day of the party, if you can believe it, Keith ends up getting sick. He was running a temperature. He felt achy. Just all over not feeling good. The plan to get him over there was to have Missy invite us over to play cards, I think, with friends. Mari had just turned 1 a little over a month before. I had no clue what to do.
He told me to go to Missy’s without him. I told him the only thing I could think of, even though it wasn’t true, that I wasn’t comfortable going by myself. In the end, I somehow convinced him to come. He was feeling a little better by that time and I think that fever had even gone, but he wasn’t feeling himself.
Well, this in particular night it also had freezing rain so the streets were just a little icy. I drove and we drove right up to in front of her house. I got out of the driver side door, and began to walk quickly to get around the backside of the car. Well, the ice on the ground didn’t like me very much. I slipped so fast I didn’t even know I’d fallen until my chin hit the ground hard. I’m surprised I wasn’t knocked out. And man did it hurt. It took me a few seconds to get my barrings. I stood up, was overly careful as I took Mari out of her car seat and walked her in with Keith right behind me.
Everyone was ready to say surprise but they say my mad dash to the restroom. I don’t know how I didn’t have a gash or anything but I was okay. The rest of the night went great and even by the end of it Keith was feeling pretty good.
Do you have any stories where you fell on your face or even stories about walking or driving on the ice?
