When we talk about giving something away, do we do it with a kind, open heart or do we do it because it feels like an obligation or that we have to. Personally, I can’t remember the last time where I felt pressured to give a gift. I love walking into a store and seeing something that reminds me of a family member or friend. It’s not something overly big or pricy, but it’s something I know the recipient will like. I call them “Just because” gifts. And because it’s a “just because” I don’t expect anything in return. I think that is what a true gift should be all about.
One time I remember walking around in Target and on an end-cap, or at the end of an aisle, were these wedding type items. One of the items has four small photo albums in it. They were that pretty wedding white and the covers looked kind of like they were made of satin. On the binding edge each one said something different: Bridal Shower, Wedding Rehearsal, Wedding Day, Honeymoon. I immediately thought of my sister-in-law, my husband‘s sister, who was getting married soon. I knew she’d love it. So I picked it up and gave it to her a few days later. She did love it. She still has it and it is filled with pictures. It is out where everyone can see it. She got married in June 2005 and her and her husband just had their first baby.
For me, this is one way I feel like I can give, or serve, the people I know. It lets them know I love and am thinking of them.

Gift giving is awesome!! I always have trouble keeping the gift a secret! It’s really ridiculous. My husband gave me secret keeping rules for the next holiday season…. 🙂

I love that: secret keeping rules. I’m much like you. I want so bad to give the gift I can’t wait. Sometimes I make it and others times, well, they get the gift before hand.
