We can look at kids with all the energy we wish we still and get tired by looking at them. Sometimes we joke and say, “Man, if I could bottle all that energy and sell it I’d make millions.” We all laugh and agree.
I think sometimes we forget what it’s like to play. I’m not saying to go out to the monkey bars or anything. I’m talking about taking time out to do some fun adult things like rock climbing, paintball or going to a dance club to just let loose.
Kids are undeterred by what holds down so many adults. They don’t have a job. They don’t have bills to pay. They’re free, in a sense, as the grown up life hasn’t started for them yet, and that’s good. We want our kids to be able to be kids as long as possible.
So as writers we get to have play time in our heads all the time as we think up wonderful and fascinating stories to tell. Think how awesome that feels. We have a special place to go every single day without ever having to go anywhere. This puts a smile on my face. I’m so happy God gave me this awesome gift of writing as it just warms my soul.
