Life. The unexpectable waiting around any corner for us to come and find it. Yet, so many of us fight the unknown. It can scare the you-know-what out of us, and it’s even worse for those we affectionately call “control freaks.” It’s in their nature to try to stay in control of everything.
However, life has a way of deciding when and where it will take us. It’s like a pool that sits right in your backyard. You know it like the back of your hand. You swim in it every day as it brings you enjoyment. Then one night you decide to take a swim. You go to dive off the diving board but you’re not paying attention. The water is all gone and you dive into an empty swimming pool. Tragedy has struck. What happened to your refreshing water? The stability you have come to know and love?
The fact remains that we can never be fully in control of our lives. The unexpected can strike at any time and the inevitable tragedy will happen at some point. We need to understand that life just happens. Go with it. When tragedy strikes, lean on those around you. They’ll be there for you more than you can even begin to realize. It’ll feel like they’re coming out of the wood work. They pray for you and give you a hug when you need it. They are there to just listen.
Try not to let the empty pool surprise you. When you notice it, try to do the best you can with what you have. No matter what, life will continue to move forward whether we’re ready for it or not.
