Have you ever had one of those moment when you’re writing where your characters just won’t shut up. They continue to talk and talk and talk. They won’t quit until you write what they’re telling you to write down. This has happened to me a few times with the fiction novel I’ve been writing to the point I have a major rewrite in the works that’ll need to be completed by the time I go to my first writer’s conference in September.
If you aren’t a writer you may think that we have something mentally wrong with us if we’re all hearing voices in our heads, but we aren’t. It’s how our creative side works. It’s what helps us to write the stories that we do. I have no doubt that even authors like Nora Roberts, Steven King, Beverly Lewis, Maggie Brendan and Julie Lessman have all had their characters talking to them as they write. This is how we have so many great stories out there today to choose from.
So if you have an idea that just won’t go away. Write it down immediately. It’s there because you’re meant to write it down. Maybe you’ll be the next Emily Griffin, Francine Rivers or some other author. You may sell a few hundred books, or, if you are lucky, a few million. Either way, get it written down and then see where it takes you.
