Have you ever done something where you felt like in the end you killed whatever it was? Kind of like someone who love drawing and wanted to be an architect. So they went to school to get their degree in what they love. And then they got the dream job. However, after several years of doing what you used to love it's not become a job and you no longer love it like you used it. In a way it's like the dream became roadkill. I think when we go after our dreams we have to remember that we focus on … [Read more...]
Day 163: The Proper Training of a Writer
I love what the author had to say about today: Maybe you don’t have a college degree. Or maybe you have an MBA from Harvard. Or maybe you barely got through high school. Do not use any of the above (including your MBA) as an excuse not to write. Very often our path to becoming a writer is messy and unpredictable and totally disconnected from formal education. Abercrombie, Barbara (2012-05-08). A Year of Writing Dangerously: 365 Days of Inspiration & Encouragement (Kindle Locations … [Read more...]
Day 162: Privacy, Privacy, Privacy
In this life is anything ever truly private, like in a diary or journal? Probably not. I think of the book "Go Ask Alice." I guarantee that when she wrote out what she did that she didn't expect that once she died it would be turned into a world-famous book. Or Anne Frank or any other books that came from a diary. While we would love to have our privacy, the reality is no one really has any. Maybe were not supposed to. Since I was around ten, I got my first diary from Grandma Patton one year … [Read more...]
Day 161: Dreams of Messy Rooms and Crazy Typewriters
When you dream do you dream about things that actually have happen or will happen or are your dreams of things that are completely made up? I can honestly say I rarely remember my dreams. If I do, it is only for a limited time and the memory of the dream itself seems to vanish a short time later. However, I sometime have day dreams, or more like thoughts, that pop into my head for a good story idea for a book. I still remember the day I was up in my bedroom making the bed when the idea for the … [Read more...]
Day 160: One-Hair Brushes
It means to let yourself go. To be free to what you want to possibly get a better result than you could have expected. I love this quote, "Technique alone is never enough. You have to have passion. Technique alone is just an embroidered potholder." - Raymond Chandler I think writing is that for me. throughout the last five years I've done different things with my writing which has allowed me to become more and more open with it. I'm able to share more about me and who I am as a person. I try … [Read more...]
Day 159: What Would You Attempt?
If you knew you could do something, and there was no possibility of failing, what would you do? I think if we’re honest we could come up with tons of things to answer this question. However, if everything we ever did never resulted in some type of failure how would we learn for those mistakes we’ve made? We couldn’t. We’d never appreciate those things we do succeed at as everything would always be a positive in the end. I think of my past and it is riddle with different failures throughout it. … [Read more...]
Day 158: Winging It
From the moment we are born we have to go by instinct to get things done. Think about it. No one taught us how to hold our heads up. We just eventually did. No one taught us how to sit up. We just did. No one taught us how to crawl, or walk, or any number of things. We just did. How about that new job you took. Did you know everything you needed to know from the moment you started to work or did instinct have to kick in at some point and just went with the flow? Obviously you need to know some … [Read more...]
Day 157: Dressed for Work
Those of us who don’t have a job outside the home whether it’s because we work from home, have a business we run out of our home or are home by choice (like stay-at-home mommies), what do we wear around the house? I can imagine all the different things people could wear. I think it’s all in our head and what we feel is best in that moment. For some, not getting dressed at all and wearing their PJs is the way to go. Or some maybe get dressed up in their business professional attire to give … [Read more...]
Day 156: Gratitude
In life there are so many things that can bring us down. The loss of a job. A house being foreclosed on. A spouse who’s had an affair. The loss of a parent; a spouse; a son or daughter. The list could go on with all the things that make us sad and miserable. However, it’s what we do when these things happen that matters most. When Mari died it would have been so very easy to curl up into a ball and just wither away as the pain was so acute and utterly deep. I’d cry out of the blue for what … [Read more...]
Coming to a decision…
In the last week or so I've been trying very hard to keep my site going with having a post for every day. However, after giving much thought to my decision, I've had to decide to cut down on the number of posts I do here on a weekly basis. My 365 day writing journey has been so much fun for me. However, I've also started my fiction writing website, kristenatunstall.com, and this site has also become important to my writing career. So far it's been going great. I feel blessed with how my writing … [Read more...]
