It seems the last few things I've written have been because of KLove being in the background here recently. It's good to have uplifting songs playing. Last night a song came on that I've heard before, but for some reason the words really struck me this time. The song begins like this: To everyone who's lost someone they love Long before it was their time You feel like the days you had were not enough when you said goodbye How many times have I heard, or thought to myself for that matter, … [Read more...]

For a while I've wanted to have a section at the top of Mari's website the lead to import posts or pages that someone might be interested. My hope is that it will be helpful. If you ever have any suggestions for her site please do not hesitate to let me know. I appreciate all input. I want to thank all my followers. I know you may not always comment but I know you are there reading what I write. To know my words have touched others warms my heart. And just think, all of this is because of my … [Read more...]
I Can Only Imagine…
I can only imagine. Those words can mean so much to so many different people. For me they have a place imbedded in my heart as we had the song "I Can Only Imagine" by MercyMe put on the Video montage of a photo slideshow that played in the background as each picture popped up on the screen. Before Mari died, the song had always held a special place for me as the lyrics really touch home for what we all try to imagine heaven to be when we get there, when we finally get to see Jesus. I chose this … [Read more...]
Missing my writing
Here recently my writing has been on my mind a lot. However, I've been so busy as the new school year has started. I've spent the past couple of month planning out the following school year for my niece/daughter as she is in the 5th grade this year. She is such a bright, smart little girl. She is very young for a 5th grader as she is only 9 and won't turn 10 until the end of October, but you won't know it if you knew how smart she is and how well she handles most of her subjects (history, well … [Read more...]
Laura Story
I sit here this morning doing homeschool with my niece/daughter. I have KLove on in the background. I just started doing this yesterday. It’s nice to have uplifting, encouraging music in the background during the day. As I sat here moving my paper planner for the school year into a program on my computer, a song came on the radio that I have heard played many times before. I know the words and almost always sing to the song as it flows out through my speakers. The funny thing is the words … [Read more...]
Starting up again
Well, it has been a couple of months since doing my 365 day writing quest. It was a much-needed break. Mari's five-year mark for being gone has come and gone. It's hard to believe it's already been five years. Time certainly does slowly begin to dull the ache that once felt like an open never-ending bleeding wound. I know that for the rest of my life I will continue to mourn the loss of my daughter. There will still be those days where the hurt rears its ugly head as I ball my eyes out. But … [Read more...]
Birthdays
Birthdays. When we are young, a child, we can’t wait until that next birthday comes. The day after we have one we start counting down the days until our next one, just like Christmas. However, when we get older, typically after 21, birthdays just become another day where we turn older. They don’t mean as much. Well, two days ago it was my birthday. It was one of those significant ones. I turned 40. I was holding onto my thirty’s as long as I could. In fact, here is a little funny story. … [Read more...]
On a temporary break
Here recently I haven't been able to be as consistent with writing on here due to my move from Fort Knox, Kentucky, to JBER, Alaska. I thought about this a lot and I need to temporarily put my 365 day journey temporarily on hold. I don't want to but I know that with all the unpacking that still has to be done and other things that have to be taken care of I'd rather do this than continue to not be on time with my posts. I thank you for your understand. I plan to be back posting by July 1. … [Read more...]
Day 120: Writing the Event
There an old adage in writing about ‘show don’t tell.’ I’d never heard of this personally before I started to write my first fiction book. Even when I was writing the original book about my daughter I was being told to add fiction elements to her story. I’d never understood exactly what that meant until I made my first attempt. When I submitted it for comments, I was told that it was much better but I knew I needed to go deep to really convey what I was trying to say. One day I had an idea … [Read more...]
Day 119: Stillness
For me, I like to write in complete silence. No TV on. No music playing in the background. This is what works for me. My mind is clear. The words flow forth. I tend to get distracted if anything is happening around me. Writing in silence helps me to be a better writer. It’s the stillness around me that helps my creative juices to really flow forth. Sometimes as a parent we need that stillness, or quiet time, away from our children. It’s not that we don’t love them or don’t want them. We just … [Read more...]
