Please welcome this weeks guest Lillian Duncan for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey?
How has God figured into my writing journey? In more ways than I have space to tell.
I started writing when I was 40. As much as I hate to admit it now, I wasn’t living a Christian lifestyle at the time, even though I’d become a Christian as a young teenager many years before. My writing reflected the fact that I wasn’t living a Christian lifestyle.
Bad language, explicit sex scenes, and graphic violence were all a part of my writing. Not surprising, considering that was what I read most of the time in mainstream mysteries and suspense. As I renewed my walk with God, my writing stayed the same for a time.
But the time came when I had to make a choice between living in a godly way and that included my writing or not. I made the choice to live and write in such a way as to honor God—and I’ve never regretted that choice.
Some people have a hard time reconciling Christian fiction with murder and suspense novels. After all, how can Christian fiction include murder, mayhem, and bad guys? I’ve spent time meditating on this very thought. My conclusion is what better way to honor God than to show my characters in horrible situations, but still they choose to live in such a way as to glorify God.
So, for now, I’ll still keep writing suspense and mystery novels, but as always I will listen for God’s leading in this area and all areas of my life.
My latest book, BETRAYED, released on January 10. Devastated by her husband’s betrayal, Maria has been forced into the Witness Protection Program. She has willingly given up her past so that her daughter may have a future—unfortunately her dead husband just called her from the grave!
Without giving away the story, Maria faces situation after situation where she must put her faith in God and keep moving forward in spite of her circumstances. And really, isn’t that what real life is about as well?

Back Cover for Betrayed:
Witness Protection Program claims they can keep anyone safe if only they follow the rules so Maria follows the rules–every rule. She’s given up everything–her friends, her family, her past, even her name to ensure her daughter has a future.
Reborn as Veronica Minor in the sleepy little town of Sunberry, Ohio, she struggles to rebuild their life amid the beauty of her flower shop. A life where her daughter can have a happy normal childhood. A life where her daughter will never know that her father was a monster.
When a child disappears, Veronica prays it has nothing to do with her past, but what if she’s wrong? Not knowing who to trust, she trusts no one…and that’s her first mistake.
