When was the last time you felt invincible? I don't know if I've ever felt invincible. My life has been anything but. I've had abuse, abandonment, neglect, and that was all from my childhood. My husband and I have had to deal in almost 20 years of marriage my childhood, meeting in the Army, infertility, having our only child end up with severe autism, recruiting in the Army, and finally our only child dying. And I feel like I'm forgetting something. So do feel invincible? No. But do I feel … [Read more...]
Money, Time, or Expertise?
Which of these is more important: money, time, or expertise? Well, if we are fortunate enough I'd go with all three. However, most of us aren't or maybe we aren't will to give of one of those listed. For me, I think time is the most valuable. No amount of money in the world can make someone feel better. To have more experience in something might be good but would it really help. However, time, you can always give of your time. Even if it's just five minutes to say a kind word to someone who … [Read more...]
Do we take the easy or the hard way?
Well, this week I was more productive than I thought I'd be. I was able to rewrite out a new scene. Then while I was talking to a friend on Facebook just chatting away an idea came to me that might help to enhance the scene even better. But then a question came to my mind. "Is it worth all the effort to try and write the scene in the new way or take the easy route and just leave it be?" Well, I think our gut instinct, if we are honest with ourselves, is to take the easy way as it's just that: … [Read more...]
Another day…
It's hard to believe that the first week of September has already come and gone. Every month it seems like that, and then the months just go by quicker and quicker. And the next things you say to yourself is "where did the time go?" Well, today I didn't get as much done writing wise as I'd like to have hoped for but we did get a lot done for grocery shopping. A brand new Sam's Club opened up right off post and we went to sign up for our free membership since hubby is active duty. Almost $400 … [Read more...]
The Journey with Jean Davis
Please welcome this weeks guest Jean Davis for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Ben cheats. I was at a meeting of a Christian writers’ group a few years ago. We’d been given a writing prompt with fifteen minutes to write. I didn’t want to read out loud the drivel I’d come up with. But when it was Ben’s turn, he received accolades. “That’s great, Ben! You wrote that just now?” someone asked. “How did you do that? Your piece … [Read more...]
What Do I Want To Be
I think I can sum that up with just one word: A Writer. Well, I guess that was two words, but still, I've come to realize how much I love writing and that I've been given a gift. God has blessed me with this gift and I couldn't imagine mine life without it now. If you'd asked me five years ago would I think I'd want to write full-time, I'd have said no. At the time, I was grieving the recent loss of my little girl. I hadn't even started her dedication website as that was almost two months off … [Read more...]
2013, It’s Almost Gone.
Can you believe that the year 2013 is over two-thirds of the way done and we are almost to 2014 already. I can remember as a kid thinking how s l o w each and every year went as a kid. My birthday could never come quick enough. Christmas could never come quick enough. The school year certainly couldn't get over quick enough. And then right around the time I turned 21 I began to notice that the year seemed to get a little quicker than before. And ever since, each year seems to go by quicker … [Read more...]
Just 24 hours earlier, I was…
Rearranging our school year for homeschooling my niece/daughter from 5-days a week down to 4-days. Have you ever had a gut feeling telling you to do something but you thought to yourself, "Well, that can't be the way," or "That can't be right." Well, I knew at the end of last year that doing 4-days a week worked best for both Athena and myself. If we had an appointment during the week that interrupted school we were able to move the school day then to Friday. Of if one of us got sick, again … [Read more...]
Finding Something Interesting This Evening Online
As I sat here writing tonight and then went searching for some graphics, I came across an interesting one that had this on it: When To Shelve the Book You're Writing. Well, that little bit piqued my interest so I click on the graphic and it took me to this blog post: samanthaboyette.com/when-to-shelve-the-book-youre-writing. What this woman had to say was quite interesting. I know in the book I've been writing, or trying to write, every once in a while I think maybe I should move onto a new … [Read more...]
One potato, two potato, three potato, …
Four. Five potato, six potato, seven potato more. Hee Hee. You know the old saying. I used to say that all the time as a kid. Does it really mean anything or stand for anything? I don't think so. However, it's a great topic starter. Do you have any old saying you used to love to say when you were a kid or old song you'd used to sing? One of my favorites song went like this: Little Bunny Foo Foo went hopin' through the forest scoppin' up the field mice and boppin' 'em on the head. Then … [Read more...]
