When I first saw the heading "The Matanuska Valley and Other Diversions," I was like "what the heck could this be about?" Then I read the short exert and I had to laugh. One word can sum it up best: Procrastination. I don't think there's a person on this earth who hasn't procrastinated at some point in their life. Now grant it, there are some who've made it an art form with how great they do this. And others rarely ever do. God has made each and every one of us so different. We each make … [Read more...]
Do you see the glass as half full or half empty?
This might be an age-old question. It's said that if you say half empty you are a pessimist or maybe a realist, whereas if you say half full you are an optimist. And maybe for even some they think it's both. The thing is that either way it is both. So can someone be both a pessimist and an optimist at the same time. I think that maybe there are those few where in some circumstances they are very optimistic about whatever it is while in other situations they are pessimistic. For me, I consider … [Read more...]
Am I more or less like to complete the NaBloPoMo for December?
I can honestly say I don't know. Don't get me wrong. I will do everything I can to keep up to date with all postings to the best of my ability, but the reality is that life happens, as so many of us know. We have the best of intentions, but as the saying goes, some of the best laid plans can fall apart. More importantly, I'm excited to bring NaBloPoMo back to this site. I feel more at home doing it here. I can more easily talk about Mari, my writing or anything else personal and share that with … [Read more...]
A Change Coming
Well, after much thought and how I'd like to proceed forward with both this site and my author site, I realized that my 365 day journey I've been doing along with the book A Year of Writing Dangerously: 365 Days of Inspiration and Encouragement that it is more appropriate for my author site than here. And the NaBloPoMo I did here the first month then I moved it this month to my author site where it is more appropriate for here. So why not switch them. So starting on December 1, I plan to start … [Read more...]
Making a change
I've been trying to make NaBloPoMo work here on this site and I've never felt fully comfortable as it's more personal than writing related. Whereas on my daughter's dedication website (mommysangelinheaven.com) I've been doing this 365 day journey through this book called A Year of Writing Dangerously: 365 Days of Inspiration & Encouragement by Barbara Abercrombie. I've been reflecting on what the author has said and writing my post in reference to it. However, what I've come to realize is … [Read more...]
Endings…
Aren't they bitter-sweet? Some can be fantastic, like when you write the last word of your book and can say, "The End." And other endings may bring nothing but sadness and grief, like losing a loved one. Either way, the ending may be sad because even though you may be happy that your done with whatever you were doing, you may still miss that time spent on it. I think of the extras on a Blu-Ray or DVD where the actors, actress, or the director will say how happy they are the movie is done yet … [Read more...]
The First Blog Post I Ever Wrote
Blogs. There are so many of them out there today and the plethora of topics that each one is on can seem to never end. After my daughter pasted, my grief ran so deep. I bought a new diary (yes, I still call my journal a diary :) ) to write all those thoughts constantly swimming around in my head. I needed an outlet to be able to just vent. Then approximately three months later I had all those words I just had to get written down. So I sat down at my dining room table and began to write those … [Read more...]
Day 170: The Dangerous Place
It's interesting but if you think about it the life of a writer is one of being solitary, alone, by yourself for long periods of time. Can you handle being along like this for anything length of time or would it drive you crazy. When you have any kind of job from home or business from home, you ultimately have to work by yourself as there isn't anyone around you pushing you to do whatever needs to be done. As a writer this is even more so. Who's going to tell you to write. Typically, just … [Read more...]
Day 166: Blocks
In life we can take those things we need or want to do and put them into blocks, like blocks of time. Depending on the block is whether we get right to it or we end up procrastinating about it all. I tend to be a procrastinator, even though I don't want to be. When it comes to writing, I can put my fiction into one big block and nonfiction into another big one. Then those big ones break down into smaller ones where Mari's book is one and then the fiction book I'm writing now is another. At the … [Read more...]
The Journey with Ava Pennington
Please welcome this weeks guest Ava Pennington for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Step By Step I dreamed of writing for years, but never considered publication a realistic goal. My one success was a tribute to my mother published in a human interest column in a local newspaper. I wasn’t paid, but it encouraged me that someone thought enough of my writing to publish it commercially. Writing took a back seat when I began … [Read more...]
