Please welcome back this weeks guest Jennifer Slattery for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? If only we could see things from God’s perspective, imagine the heart ache, frustration, or plain foolishness we’d avoid! If only, when we can’t see, we’d learn to trust, knowing God is indeed good even when it feels as if everything’s falling apart. His love is ever-reaching, ever-healing, ever-drawing, even when we feel all alone. And His … [Read more...]
2014 ACFW Pre-Conference Mix and Mingle #acfw
My plan this morning had been to get back to writing my 365 day journey. However, I came across something in my email this morning that I'm quite excited about. All you have to do is answer a few questions, which I've put below. If you'd like to join in the fun and add yourself to the list, please click this link: laurietomlinson.com and if you don't have a … [Read more...]
The Journey with Jeanie Jacobson #acfw #thejourney
Please welcome this weeks guest Jeanie Jacobson for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? An old Verizon commercial showed a man striding through various locations, from cornfields to city streets. Everywhere he went he'd hold out his phone and ask, "Can you hear me now?" For me, it seemed like everywhere I went God kept calling out, "Jeanie, can you hear me now? Write." To be honest, I ignored Him. Fear held me back. Negative thoughts … [Read more...]
Day 121: Life Rafts #acfw
Life rafts can mean so many different things to different people. For me, my life rafts come from my Heavenly Father. He knows when I’m about to drown. It’s in these moments He gives me a life raft, in other words, He carries me through whatever is happening in my life at that time. When Mari got sick, I started on my very long sixteen day journey that felt like the worst roller coast I’d ever been on, and I love roller coasters. It’s like I couldn’t wait for the terrible ride to end, only in … [Read more...]
Day 120: Writing the Event #acfw
There an old adage in writing about ‘show don’t tell.’ I’d never heard of this personally before I started to write my first fiction book. Even when I was writing the original book about my daughter I was being told to add fiction elements to her story. I’d never understood exactly what that meant until I made my first attempt. When I submitted it for comments, I was told that it was much better but I knew I needed to go deep to really convey what I was trying to say. One day I had an idea … [Read more...]
Day 116: Why Writers Get Scared #acfw
As writers we have to be willing to pour ourselves into our writing. It’s what makes a good story. I think the reason why my daughter’s hospital story has touched so many is because the words written came directly from my heart. I didn’t hold anything back. At the time I only thought of them as updates for friends and family. But over time they have become so much more. Some of the comments I’ve received have been such a blessing for me. (To read the comments others have left, click the … [Read more...]

The Journey with Melody Balthaser #acfw
Please welcome this weeks guest Melody Blathaser for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? A special thank you to you, Kristena, for allowing me to share my writing journey. It is a privilege! As a teenager, I stumbled upon romance novels and the rest is history. School nights spent under covers with a flashlight, entrenched in an imaginary world of spirited southern belles and handsome drifters. A time or two, I read all night! This … [Read more...]
The Journey with Angela Meyer
Please welcome this weeks guest Angela Meyer for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? God has always been a part of my writing. Since junior high with the first pen scratches, poems of angst and attempts at stories. My heart poured out to God in written prayers and lessons He taught me. He drew me closer to Him in those early years on my journey of faith. About 7 years ago I wrote my first full length novel and over the course of 5 … [Read more...]
Day 95: Five Things Writers Can Learn from Dogs
I love the list from the book as these can be applied to not only writers, but so many things people do in life. 1. Be tenacious and curious about everything. Don't be afraid to try and do new things. See where they take you. Who knows, maybe you'll like it. 2. Abandon yourself to joy on occasion. Don't be afraid to allow yourself to be happy. It's okay to give into the joyous side of life. If your dog suffers from depression they probably need CBD oil to feel better. Get more info here on … [Read more...]
