Please welcome this weeks guest Carole Brown for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? To Paraphrase Shakespeare . . . To be (a writer) or not to be (a writer). 2012 started out with determination to become published. I was already going through a discouragement period, and I felt little change as the months passed. Tidbits of things should have given me a hint that change was in the air. Or maybe better said, in my … [Read more...]
What I’d wish for if I had more time each day
What if we had all the time in the world each and everyday to do whatever we wanted. Well, I can't just name one thing as there are so many I'd love to be able to do all the time. 1. Spending quality time with my family. I think this goes without saying. :D 2. I'd love to be able to read as much as I want when I wanted to several hours throughout the day. Reading for pleasure. Reading to improve my writing. Reading nonfiction. I love to read. 3. I'd love to be able to have as much time as I … [Read more...]
Day 3: The Holy Calling
Its amazing sometimes how God works. Many say His ways are mysterious. The bottom line, no matter how much we want to control every thing, we simply don't know His plan for all of our lives. His plan is greater than any of us can fathom. For me this hit me head on like a Mac truck (I know clique, but it's true) when God decided to answer our prayers about healing my precious baby girl by telling us all no, that it was time to bring her home to heaven where she'll be free from autism. He … [Read more...]
Day 2: Sacred Space
When I think of "Sacred Space" I think of it more in the abstract. I can be sitting in my living room in my comfy cozy chair or like I am now, writing this on my Kindle as I walk on my treadmill. For me my space becomes sacred when I need to write something. I don't like to be interrupted as I can lose my train of thought just like the snap of my fingers. Sometimes I'm so engrossed in what I'm doing that others may try to talk to me but I don't hear them as my mind's been turned off to … [Read more...]
Making a change
I've been trying to make NaBloPoMo work here on this site and I've never felt fully comfortable as it's more personal than writing related. Whereas on my daughter's dedication website (mommysangelinheaven.com) I've been doing this 365 day journey through this book called A Year of Writing Dangerously: 365 Days of Inspiration & Encouragement by Barbara Abercrombie. I've been reflecting on what the author has said and writing my post in reference to it. However, what I've come to realize is … [Read more...]
The Journey with Paula Mowery
Please welcome this weeks guest Paula Mowery for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Growing up, my mother worked at a Christian bookstore. She would bring me books to read and also journals to write in, so I suppose she is partially responsible for my love of reading Christian fiction and my love of writing. I wanted to pass on this love. As an English teacher for middle school students I urged them to find books they could get into, … [Read more...]
Happy Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving. It's a time of year where families gather round their tables to eat a big feast of turkey, ham, yams, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, apple pie, pumpkin pie, or whatever family tradition yours might have. But before you eat, many families will go around the table and say what they are thankful for over the past year. Five years ago on this very day I remember how hard it was for me on that first Thanksgiving with Mari gone. (Click here to view the post from … [Read more...]
Endings…
Aren't they bitter-sweet? Some can be fantastic, like when you write the last word of your book and can say, "The End." And other endings may bring nothing but sadness and grief, like losing a loved one. Either way, the ending may be sad because even though you may be happy that your done with whatever you were doing, you may still miss that time spent on it. I think of the extras on a Blu-Ray or DVD where the actors, actress, or the director will say how happy they are the movie is done yet … [Read more...]
The First Blog Post I Ever Wrote
Blogs. There are so many of them out there today and the plethora of topics that each one is on can seem to never end. After my daughter pasted, my grief ran so deep. I bought a new diary (yes, I still call my journal a diary :) ) to write all those thoughts constantly swimming around in my head. I needed an outlet to be able to just vent. Then approximately three months later I had all those words I just had to get written down. So I sat down at my dining room table and began to write those … [Read more...]
Quitting A Bad Habit
If I could quit one bad habit I have it would be to quit being a procrastinator and just get things done. Why do I wait until the last-minute where I'm running around frantically trying to get done whatever it is I'm doing? I have no idea. I think part of my problem is time management and how I can easily eat away at my time when I should be doing something else. When you work outside the home for someone else you are forced to be accountable with your time because if you don't the chances of … [Read more...]
