Please welcome this weeks guest Allyson Carter for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? Kristena asked me to write about my writing journal and what God has done for me with it. I panicked, and had no clue what to write about, because, well let me explain, what I mean by what I just said. I’m a Christian, who writes, but until recently I wrote in a very hot genre. So, as you can see I had no clue how or what to say. Well, then, my … [Read more...]
FALLing Asleep
Have you ever wondered how long it takes you to fall asleep? There are times where it seems almost from the moment my head hits that pillow I'm out. And then there are other times where I can be laying there for a couple of hours, tossing, turning, looking at the clock, and still not being able to go to sleep. But for the most part I'd say it probably takes me five to ten minutes to get there. Something that helps me along the way is reading a book. Here recently, the books I've been … [Read more...]
The Journey with Sally Bradley, Part 2 of 2
Here we have the continuing journey of Sally Bradley as she answers the question, "How have you seen God work in your writing journey?" If you missed the Part 1, you can click here to read the first half of her writing journey. Over the next year, the time it took me to heal, editor after editor passed on the book. And I found myself relieved that my dream hadn’t come to fruition yet. What a disaster that would have been. A few months after I’d healed, God moved us from the church where my … [Read more...]
Pumpkin or Apple Pie at Thanksgiving?
Talk about two of my very favorite pies. It’s hard to choose which is possibly my favorite. So I won’t. However, I will give the recipes that I use when making them from scratch (And yes, I make everything from scratch to include the pie crust. Yummy!!) The basis for my pie crust comes from the Betty Crocker cookbook, yet I’ve done some slight alterations to give it my own little touch. I use this for both my pumpkin and apple pies. One-Crust Pie (Pumpkin): ⅓ cup plus 1 tablespoon butter … [Read more...]
The Journey with Sally Bradley, Part 1 of 2
Please welcome this weeks guest Sally Bradley for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? in a two-part series. The first half having posted today. On Sunday, October 13, 2013, Part 2 posted. I hope you will enjoy her journey as much I have. One of the most amazing things about God is that He is well able to take true disasters in our life and bring good from them. Any Christian writer certainly knows this. My writing journey began a … [Read more...]
I’m a Suncrisp apple.
You might be saying, “Say what?” If I had to pick an apple I’d say I was a Suncrisp apple. They are a smaller type of apple. When you take a bit the apple itself is crisp and crunchy, yet not too hard. The taste, not too sweet and not too sour, but a nice combination of both. So why would I consider myself to be like a Suncrisp Apple. Because overall I’m a nice person. I try to do things for others if I can. However, one major flaw of mine is my lack of patience. I don’t have very much. I can … [Read more...]
The Journey with June Foster
Please welcome this weeks guest June Foster for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? I retired from teaching elementary school in El Paso, Texas. A few years later my husband and I bought an RV and began traveling across the United States, loving every minute of our freedom. I can't describe all the exciting places we visited. Some mornings we'd even wake up and ask ourselves where we wanted to travel today. After a few years, something … [Read more...]
The Journey with Ada Nicholson Brownell
Please welcome this weeks guest Ada Nicholson Brownell for The Journey. She answers the question: How have you seen God work in your writing journey? THE FIRE STILL BURNS When elected president of the youth group in my home church at age 15, our services weren’t the usual three songs and a speaker. We had a service where admission to the meeting was a mirror. The words to the music were backward, so the youth had to look in a mirror to read them. The speaker spoke on our lives … [Read more...]
Day 1: Family Owned Diner
In my book, "The Unknown Door," one of my main characters, Nate, his family own their own little family diner. When I think of a family diner, I think of a quaint little place. Everyone knows everyone type of atmosphere. That's the kind of diner I'm going to have for Nate and his family. One of those types of diner I remember seeing in a movie is in "Picture Perfect" with Jennifer Aniston, Jay Mohr, and Kevin Bacon. In the movie, there is this scene where Jennifer's character is sitting in a … [Read more...]
A new journey (of sorts)
On my daughter's dedication website, I started a journey at the beginning of the year where I'd write for 365 days from reading prompts out of this book. I've been loving it and it's been an interesting ride along the way. The thing is, I'd like to do something similar on here but don't want to use the same book. So I went on a search today and found five new books, one of which I'm going to start for my journey here. They're simple word prompts. I think it will fun and exciting as I start … [Read more...]
