Well, yesterday was a good day. I had the day off so I spent most of the day typing the entries I write in my pink journal here at work. It felt good to finally get them typed up and posted on Mari’s website. Now that her b-day has come and gone, it is easier again. I am grateful for this.
We went to try out a new church on Sunday. We have not gone to church since we moved here at the end of April last year. I know I started to feel a tug to start looking in the past couple of months but it seemed like if I was off a day on the weekend it was always Saturday instead of Sunday. Keith did not want to start looking without me. So we had to wait.
Finally, the Sunday before Christmas I was finally off. We went to this church that had left a card on our front door. We decided to try the Sunday School Class (or as many call it now the Bible Study Class). We were new. Never been there before and no one asked us who we were or our names. The class felt more like we were being preached too as there was no interaction. The class went quicker than planned and they were done early. Not one person came up to us to say hi or introduce themselves to us. Everyone just sat there talking to those they already knew. It is like we were the outcasts. We did not feel welcome at all.
On top of that, if the men weren’t wearing suits or the women in dresses, it felt like you did not belong. Needless to say, we left the church and did not stay for worship service. I guess God was not calling us to attend there.
The next week we headed for Chicago the day after Christmas for Mari’s b-day on the 29th.
Well, I was off again this past Sunday and we got to try a new church. It is only about a 5 minute drive to get there which is nice for us. We walk in the doors and right away 3 church members welcome us. They have us fill out a visitor card. They ask us what type of class we were interested in. Keith said, “A couple’s class.” We were told about the “Sonshine” class.
One of the greeters showed us the way through the maze of stairs and hallways to our class to try. He talked the whole way about the church. He even tried to recruit us into the choir. Right away we just felt welcome.
We walk into the classroom and the greeter interrupts the teacher and introduces us to the class. Keith and I both really liked this a lot. The class was very interactive and welcoming. We really enjoyed it.
We decided to stay for worship service as well. We like the preacher. We had a good overall feeling about the church. We are planning on going again this Sunday and we even went this past Wednesday night. We may have finally found our church home. It’s nice.
