Okay, I’ll be honest. I don’t have a favorite childhood costume (I know, how sad is that LOL). The reason why is I don’t really remember any particular costume I had.
Do you remember those like plastic type costumes that covered the body and then the hard plastic mask for the face? Those are the one that I remember getting every year. I never had one of those kewl costumes that so many other kids at on at school. My mom couldn’t afford it.
Today, however, those types of costumes I don’t think exist any more. My niece picked out this year a southern bell type costume with hat and all. It’s floor length and she this it’s pretty. She is one of those girly-girls. Love her frills and bows and it all. I think she will look adorable in it.
I think the biggest thing I remember about Halloween is the candy and the fresh goodies, especially getting that darn apple. However, I also remember the year it all changed when it was reported on the news how a little kid had found a razor blade in his apple. It shock us a nation that anyone would do something like that. Today, we, as parents, have to take the bag of candy our kids get and got through each and every piece to make sure it is in a wrapper that has been untouched or it goes into the garbage. Talk about a similar time.
I think my favorite type of candy to get was when someone would give you a full size candy bar.
So, what was your favorite costume to wear growing up? What were some of your favorite memories?

hmmm….I don’t think I really had a favorite. A lot of my costumes growing up were homemade (little red riding hood, a gypsy, a witch, even, I think, Dorothy), but I do remember some store bought (Holly Hobby, Isis, this weird alien one that had an inflatable orange head/hat thing). My favorite part was going to my friends house, dumping out the candy, and trading!

Jean, that is awesome about the candy and the friends house. As for Holly Hobby, when I was about 5 or 6 I had a Holly Hobby oven. It looked like one of those old fashion stoves. I love that silly little thing and used it all the time. Wow, have times changed.
