“So go ahead. Fall down. The world looks different from the ground.” – Oprah Winfrey
How many of us out there can say without a doubt that they embrace failure? To be honest, I think our first instinct is a no. Who wants to fail? I hope that answer is a big no. However, do we fail a little, sometimes, or a lot? Absolutely. It all depends on our knowledge of what we are trying to do and how big the likelihood it will.
In the end it’s how we handle those failures that matter. Do we kick ourselves in the rump and give up? Or do we say, “Okay, I failed. How can I do that better?” I hope that most of us are the later.
I know when it comes to my writing I’ve been learning a lot. Things to include. Things to not include. How to make it better. If after those first few critiques I received back and looked at them thinking, “Well, I stink.” And then thought there’d be no sense in continuing, then I’d have given up on something that has truly brought me happiness.
I’ve done a lot of different things throughout my life, but writing has come to mean the most. I love how I’ve grown and continue to grow almost on a daily basis. Will I ever fully know or understand how to write the way I need to. I don’t know. Honestly, that doesn’t matter to me. What’s most important is that I stay open to learning. No matter what live throws at me I want my writing to grow and be the best I can make it.
So do I embrace failure? To the best of my ability, yes. So, what about you? Do you embrace failure?

Good post today, Kristina. I’ve been feeling like a failure today! So I needed that. The good part about it is I can’t give up until God says it’s time. And it’s not time yet. (smile)

Thank you June. I’m glad my post was able to give you some encouragement today. It’s nice when you can read something and it can do that for you. And you are so right about God’s timing. He is great about letting us know when enough is enough and when to keep pushing forward (even when we may want to quit so bad). (smiling right back at ya 🙂 )

We only grow when we’re rooted in the dirt and you have to fall down to root. I personally hate failure, but I know I grow when I do. So, I get up and get ready to fall again. 😉

Zan Marie, I’m right there with you. It’s amazing also what we learn from our failures. I think the biggest thing is to keep pushing forward because in the end that is what makes us succeed.
