You shake your head at all the energy one little girl exuded.
Mari’s infallible energy never ceased to amaze any of us. She could run through the house dancing, singing, both at the same time. She wasn’t picky.
Mari truly didn’t care what other people thought of her. She’d run around at school, church, the store or any place that had a floor. So basically everywhere. I remember one day after the church service watching Mari in her normal exuberant self run all around making her Mari noises. She could entertain herself for hours.
As her mom I was hurt for the both of us. I went up to these girls and told them that what they were doing was wrong. I explained that Mari had autism and she was different from other children. That teasing someone who doesn’t even understand what was happening to them was so wrong. They never teased my daughter again.
Mari’s energy we used to say how if we could bottle up all her energy we’d be some rich people. It’s kind of like Mari never had a stop button. But all her energy could put a smile on anyone’s face.
