When we write do we want to be vague or do we want to be as clear as possible? I hope your answer was the latter.

In our writing we should want to be as clear and straight forward so there is no confusion on the part of the reader. The clarity of our story needs to not make sense only in our heads but also the reader. If we didn’t have readers there would be no need to write a story in the first place.

One morning my niece and her friend that had stayed the night were upstairs in her room picking it up and getting dressed. The mom of the friend was over to get her daughter. We went upstairs to check on the girls and my niece said to this mom, “Why don’t you go to church any more?”

I told my niece that it was none of her business. The mom said, “Kids can be so honest.” I said, “Brutally so.”

That’s just it. Kids have such clarity. They aren’t afraid to ask questions. They see the world in a different way than adults do because they haven’t learned yet to filter what they say. They just say what’s on their mind. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that much clarity all the time?
